Terms of Service

1. Acceptance of terms

By downloading, installing, or using SnipSync ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree to these Terms, do not use the App.

2. Description of service

SnipSync is a desktop application that allows you to save and sync text-based clips (notes, links, code snippets, etc.) across multiple devices. The service requires an internet connection and a Google account for authentication.

3. Account

You must sign in with a valid Google account to use SnipSync. You are responsible for maintaining the security of your Google account. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account.

We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to use SnipSync to:

• Store, transmit, or share content that is illegal, harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory, or otherwise objectionable.
• Store passwords, credit card numbers, social security numbers, or other highly sensitive credentials as your primary storage. While SnipSync offers end-to-end encryption, it is designed as a clipboard sync tool, not a password manager.
• Attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service, other users' data, or the underlying infrastructure.
• Reverse-engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App except where permitted by law.
• Use the service to send spam, phishing content, or malware payloads.
• Abuse the service in any way that degrades performance for other users (e.g., automated bulk clip creation).

5. Your content

You retain ownership of any content you create in SnipSync. By using the service, you grant us a limited license to store and transmit your content solely for the purpose of providing the SnipSync service to you.

We do not claim any intellectual property rights over your clips. We will not use your content for advertising, training machine learning models, or any purpose other than delivering the service.

6. Privacy

Your use of SnipSync is also governed by our Privacy Policy, which describes how we collect, use, and protect your data.

7. End-to-end encryption

SnipSync offers optional end-to-end encryption. When enabled, your clip content is encrypted on your device before transmission using XSalsa20-Poly1305 (NaCl). The encryption key is derived from a vault password that you set. This password is never transmitted to or stored on our servers.

Important: If you enable encryption and lose or forget your vault password, your encrypted clips cannot be recovered by us or anyone else. This is by design — it is what makes the encryption zero-knowledge. We strongly recommend keeping a secure record of your vault password.

We are not liable for data loss resulting from a forgotten vault password.

8. Availability & reliability

We strive to keep SnipSync available 24/7, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted service. The service may be temporarily unavailable due to maintenance, updates, or circumstances beyond our control.

We are not responsible for data loss. While we take reasonable measures to protect your data, you should not rely on SnipSync as your sole copy of important information.

9. Disclaimer of warranties

SnipSync is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, either express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.

We do not warrant that the App will be error-free, secure, or meet your specific requirements.

10. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Vincent Jacobs and SnipSync shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, or business interruption, arising out of or in connection with your use of the App.

Our total liability for any claim arising from your use of SnipSync shall not exceed the amount you have paid us in the twelve months preceding the claim (which, given SnipSync is free, is zero).

11. Modifications to the service

We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue the App or any part of it at any time, with or without notice. We will make reasonable efforts to notify users of significant changes.

12. Changes to these terms

We may revise these Terms from time to time. The updated version will be indicated by the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. By continuing to use SnipSync after changes become effective, you agree to the revised Terms.

13. Governing law

These Terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the jurisdiction in which Vincent Jacobs resides, without regard to conflict of law principles.
